Executive Director

CarolineCheng, the Director of The Pottery Workshop, an independent artist and entrepreneur, has set up studios in Shanghai, Dali and Jingdezhen, ceramic retail shops in Shanghai and Beijing, and devotes the majority of her time promoting ceramics in China.  Her works are collected by:  The British Museum in London, Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, The National Museum in Beijing, The Ceramic Museum in Vallauris, Hong Kong Museum of Art, and others.

Po-Wen Liu  
Deputy Director 

Po-Wen Liu is a studio potter and educator. Currently, he is the Pottery Workshop Deputy Director. Po-Wen has taught ceramics courses at UNCG, Greensboro College, and other US colleges and institutes. He was a Ceramics Engineer at Hsiao-Fang Pottery Arts CO. during 1994 - 1996. Po-Wen is passionate about vessel forms as the vehicle for personal expression. He is intrigued by the unmearsurable space within vessels. "This space creates a sense of retreat and a sense of peacefulness. Through creating my ceramic vessels, I form a space which allows me to seek refuge and search for the world of fugitive pleasures."

Jingdezhen

A prefecture-level city in Jiangxi Province, China, with a total population of 1,554,000. It is known as the "Porcelain Capital" because it has been producing quality pottery for 1700 years.

The city has a well-documented history that stretches back over 2000 years. Jingdezhen is one of the Chinese Historical and Cultural Cities, and was named one outstanding civilization & health city of Jiangxi Province, one tourist city of China by the end of 2007.

 
The Sculpture Factory

Established in 1956, the Jingdezhen Sculpture Factory is located in an eastern suburb, 6 kilometers away from downtown Jingdezhen. The factory is about 110 thousand square meters and 1300 workers,
including a national ceramic art master, 2 Jiangxi Provincial ceramic art master, 36 high standard craftsmen, and over 400 other craftsmen. It is considered to have one of the largest groupings of master craftsman of any sculpture factory.
